Medevac off Port Elizabeth
On Mar 11, 2015, at 4.18 p.m. the NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew launched the sea rescue craft "Eikos Rescuer IV" to rendezvous with the "Densa Flamingo" one mile off Port Elizabeth, to medevac an ill sailor who was suffering acute stomach cramps from unknown causes. The NSRI Port Elizabeth was notified by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) on Mar 10 of the imminent arrival of the ship, which was sailing from India to South America. The ill 33 year old Turkish sailor was suffering stomach cramps since the Feb 4, and with the pain not easing they made arrangements with South African Authorities to have him taken off the ship to be seen to by doctors as the ship passed by the South African coast. On arrival on-scene the patient was transferred aboard the sea rescue craft and he has been brought safely ashore in a stable condition and the ships agents have transported him to doctors for further treatment.
