Deniz-Akay

The 'Deniz Akay' lost power while departing from the De Franceschievo pier. The ship allided with the anchored 'Galeb', the former state yacht of the former Yugoslavian president Josip Broz Tito, which is being converted to a museum ship, in the port of Rijeka on Feb 13, 2026, at approximately 8:30 p.m.,. There were no injuries and no pollution. Emergency services were alerted immediately after the incident. Representatives from the Rijeka Port Authority were quickly on the scene and conducted initial investigations. Alcohol tests on the crew members of the freighter were negative. The technical inspection revealed only minor damage, affecting the port side of the 'Deniz Akay' and the port side bow section of the 'Galeb'. The Rijeka Port Authority imposed an administrative measure on the 'Deniz Akay', prohibiting it from sailing until the inspection and other evidentiary actions were completed. The ship left the port on Feb 17, en route to Altinova, where it arrived on Feb 21.
